Cirque De Freak, Vampire Mountain by Darren Shan (Little Brown and Company, 2002)

Mrs. Moen I’d like you to meet Darren Shan.  Darren is a fourteen year old boy, who was turned into a half vampire against his will by Larten Crepsley.  Darren was forced by to be turned to a vampire and abandon his family or his friend Sam would have died.  Darren is strong and brave but he still can’t hide the fact that he misses his family and friend.  Darren was taken in as an apprentice by Larten Crepsley, a wise vampire.  Larten teaches Darren the proper steps to become a good vampire. Mr. Crepsley takes Darren to the heart of the vampire world, Vampire Mountain.  On the way to Vampire Mountain they encounter vampires, an evil race of vampires.  On the way to Vampire Mountain they have to feed on animals instead of humans, so they become vary week and dying is a threat.  Also on the way Mr. Crepsley received a telepathic message that said the vampaneze  are planning an attack on Vampire Mountain to wipe out the vampire world.
